The Short Answer

The Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) is Singapore’s national authority responsible for administering and enforcing the Personal Data Protection Act 2012, promoting data protection awareness, and advising the government on data protection matters.

What the Law Says

Section 6 of the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 establishes the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) and defines its composition, appointment, and core functions.

The PDPC is a statutory body created under Singapore law to administer and enforce the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA). Its role includes overseeing how organisations collect, use, and disclose personal data; receiving and investigating complaints; issuing enforcement decisions; and promoting public understanding of data protection principles.

The PDPC also advises the Government on data protection policies and may issue advisory guidelines to help organisations comply with the PDPA. It works alongside other agencies but operates independently in its regulatory functions.
