The Short Answer

If you are covered by the Employment Act, you are entitled to at least 7 days of paid annual leave after 3 months of continuous service, increasing to a maximum of 14 days after 2 years of service.

What the Law Says

The Employment Act sets the minimum statutory entitlement to paid annual leave for employees covered under the Act.

Under the Employment Act, employees who have worked for at least 3 months continuously are entitled to paid annual leave. The number of days increases with length of service — starting from 7 days and rising to a maximum of 14 days per year.

This entitlement applies to all employees covered by the Employment Act (including workmen and non-workmen earning up to S$5,000 monthly, or S$4,500 for managers/executives), unless specifically excluded.

Statutory Text

Every employee who has been employed by the same employer for not less than 3 months shall be entitled to paid annual leave.

Employment Act 1968, s. 43 — Annual leave

What to Do

1

Check if you are covered under the Employment Act (e.g., salary level, job role).

2

Confirm your length of continuous service with your employer.

3

Review your employment contract — it may offer more leave than the statutory minimum.

4

Request leave in writing and in accordance with your company’s policy.
